here are a few more photos of bryn. she hit six pounds today, so she is up 1.5 pounds from her birthweight! for the record, our daughter was born at 11:53 p.m. on sunday, november 4. she weighed 4 lbs. and 8 oz. and measured 17.5 inches in length. she's staying in the hospital a bit longer still to work on eating outside the womb. this is apparently much harder than it sounds, and it is a common stumbling block for preemies. one of the nurses told us that babies do most of their maturing when they are stressed, so bryn must have had it good in utero, because she is taking her sweet time growing up. we'll hope it stays that way, although we would like to have her at home.

Bryn had a bath from Mom today. She was wide awake when we got there, but, as you can see from the pics, she got pretty sleepy at the end.

vintage truman

this is our dog, truman, at about 2 months old. we were told at the shelter (i use that term loosely, as it was actually a trailer next to a barn with a handful of cages in it, and we paid a big guy in a straw hat, flannel shirt and overalls all of $25.50 to spring truman - no joke). but if you've ever met truman, i think you'll agree that this is much more fitting. the good news is, we have since broken him of this habit.

the baby shower

here are a couple pics from our lovely baby shower, held on labor day. kelly was kind enough to put it all together (we saved some of the decorations for a scrapbook, which may or may not ever get put together). chris let us have the shower on the patio at famous dave's in puyallup, and my parents generously contributed lunch. thanks to all who came and for all your well wishes for bryn! oh, and that is the lovely megan helping us open and display presents.

betcha couldn't wait for 3-D

here is bryn at 23 weeks. in case it is hard to tell, she has her arms up by her head and her feet in front of her face, as well as part of the umbilical cord. her weight this week puts her only at the 30th percentile, unless her initial due date was a few days too early. of course, it may also be because at my last appointment, i discovered that i had gained 14 pounds, whereas the recommended weight gain is only 10-12 pounds. so, there were fewer trips out for ice cream and a lot more fresh fruit for "dessert". but, if bryn is not getting enough to eat, maybe i should rethink this... we'll be in washington all next week, and my wonderful friend kelly is throwing us a family baby shower on labor day. we're looking forward to seeing everyone!

let the photo stream begin

part of the reason we set up this blog was to keep people posted with minimal annoyance. we know that receiving the "family letter" and the tons of attachments in your inbox is sometimes less than interesting, so the blog gives us a place to keep all kinds of info and photos. now you can browse at your leisure - or not.

as promised, here is one of our first photos of bryn. and, in case we haven't been in touch for awhile (apologies, of course), bryn is the baby girl we are expecting on christmas eve.

Musings

Bryn started kicking last week, she weighs something like 10 oz now. She is well on her way to stardom.

Also, our new furniture is coming on Friday the twenty fourth, wow.
